At this very moment, it feels especially important to express our hopes and dreams for the better days ahead in 2021. in light of this hope, Hibret school presented a new year’s eve zoom talent show program on Dec 31, 2020. In addition to the show , we also had an opportunity to pay a tribute to the late W/ro Tsehay Megerssa and Ato Bahitha Mellese.

Hibret school students enthusiastically participated in various aspects of group and individual talent show performances. The students shined with their presentations that include, Cultural Ethiopian dance, playing Modern musical instruments, poem reading, exhibiting gymnastics and soccer skills, group and individual singing, solving the Rubik’s cube and other which was suitable to our audiences. The show was an exciting display and showcase of our students’ talent, and also was a great opportunity to share any cultural tradition or talents our kids may have. DEBREZEIT HIBRET ELEMENTARY SCHOOL : Library Project Update

https://gofund.me/20b92fa5

Dear Hibret School Library project supporters;

As all of our Vancouver based Hibret Amharic school members and our library project supporters know, we have been tirelessly working to build a desperately needed Library to our namesake Hibret Primary school, which is located in Debrezeit, Ethiopia.

As a child I received my primary education (Grade 1 through 8) at Debrezeit  Hibret Elementary school. A few years ago, when I had a chance to visit this school and obtained firsthand knowledge of its current situation, I felt that I have an obligation to do my part to the school as well as to the students in improving their learning experience.

Currently there are 3000 students attending the shift based day program, and 600 young adults, who work to support their parents / family during the day and attend the evening school program.

We know that School Library is an integral part of the teaching and learning process. It facilitates the work of classroom teacher and helps each student to make them understand and gives a lot opportunity of access the resource of desired information.

In 2019 – 2020 academic years, Hibret Amharic  and Cultural School annual fundraising event, one of our main sources of revenue, was canceled because of the pandemic. But, with the money we collected from Vancouver Amharic school parents’ donation and the supporters of our Library project, we have started the construction of the library on April 2020. So far, we were able to build the foundation of the Library

I would like to express my deepest appreciation to all of you who are part of this noble cause and urge you to stay connected and continue your support. Every kind of help you provide to this project, you are changing the life of a child back in Ethiopia. We have still long way to go to reach to our desired result, and the fulfilment of this project is completely relying on you support.

Thank you;
Mekdes Gete,
